Our History

Established in the 1880s

In 1888, John R Edwards founded a legal firm in Broken Hill. From early days the firm had a prominent role in advocating for justice and the rights of the community. In particular Mitchell Austen Brown was highly regarded for his humanitarian services.

Over many eras of growth and change the firm expanded to Dubbo.

Most recently in 2021 the firm merged with Silkman Hockey Lawyers, and was renamed once more to Silkman Austen Brown Lawyers.

Today, we remain committed to providing the best legal services possible to our clients in Dubbo, Broken Hill and the surrounding regions.
